# Hertz privacy policy: current-source research note

## Source and version

The current US [terms page](https://www.hertz.com/us/en/about-us/terms-and-conditions) links to the [Hertz privacy landing page](https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/privacypolicy/index.jsp?targetPage=privacyPolicyView.jsp). That page embeds the [live privacy notice](https://privacy-central.eu.securiti.ai/notice-embed/800cf249-f2db-4887-a07b-8ae21891e35b). The notice displayed a last-updated date of March 9, 2026 and an effective date of December 31, 2019. Older standalone Hertz privacy pages found in search are not a substitute for this current notice. A plain HTTP download of the embed yielded only its JavaScript shell; the notice itself was read through the browser's accessible page content.

## Material findings

Hertz and named rental affiliates identify themselves as data controllers. The notice-at-collection table includes telematics and vehicle data: precise location, fuel, vehicle use, diagnostic and maintenance records, driving behavior, collisions and related information. The table permits certain advertising-related sharing or sale with corporate and business partners. A Texas disclosure explicitly addresses potential sale of identifiable precise location information. This is a disclosure of permitted practices; it does not identify an executed transaction, buyer, price or revenue.

The policy describes operational, customer-service, marketing, legal and security uses. Business partners are broadly defined and include advertising and analytics participants. Disclosures to a service provider for a requested service are different from sale or sharing for advertising. Rights and restrictions depend on the applicable jurisdiction. The notice provides sale/sharing opt-out routes, cookie controls and other privacy-request mechanisms. Browser-based controls do not necessarily resolve every separate account or offline data choice.

Website analytics and advertising-provider disclosures do not establish that Google receives identifiable vehicle trip histories. Nor does this policy identify Palantir as the intermediary for a commercial fleet-data export. Information described as anonymous or aggregate requires careful assessment; merely omitting a name from a precise location history does not establish anonymity.

## Investment interpretation

It would be inaccurate to describe all Hertz vehicle data as categorically private and unavailable for advertising uses. It would also be inaccurate to infer a valuable Hertz-Palantir-Google data-sale business from this notice. Contract terms, consent and other applicable rights, permitted product design, actual customer demand and net economics remain separate questions. The V5 valuation includes no separate advertising-data premium.
